The Romans Road

The Romans Road is a way to explain the gospel using verses from the book of Romans. It is by no means the only way to share the gospel. Just a way. Don't be discouraged if it doesn't "work". It isn't meant to be a fail-proof tool. Use it as a guide if God leads you to do so.

The first verse in the Romans Road is Romans 3:23:

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

We have all done things that are displeasing to God. There is no one who is innocent. Romans 3:10-18 gives a detailed picture of what sin looks like in our lives.

The second scripture on the Romans Road (Romans 6:23a) teaches us about the consequences of our sins:

For the wages of sin is death

The punishment we have earned by our sins is death, but not just a physical death - an eternal death.

The next step on the Romans Road comes from both the second part of Romans 6:23 and Romans 5:8:

Romans 6:23b

 but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:8

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 

Jesus, being perfect and spotless, died to pay our wages of sin, God the Father showed He had accepted the sacrifice of Jesus by raising Him from the dead.

That brings us to the next stop on the Romans Road - Romans 10:9:

if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 

Because of Jesus' death and resurrection, all we have to do to be saved is believe in that promise. Romans 10:13 says it again:

For 'everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' 

The last part of the Romans Road brings us to what this saving faith will do for the Christian. Romans 5:1 tells us:

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 

Because of Jesus' sacrifice we are able to have a peaceful relationship with God. Romans 8:1 also teaches us that:

There is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 

We will never have to be condemned for our sins. Not in Heaven, and not on Earth. Then in Romans 8:38-39 we learn the promise given to everyone who believes the gospel:

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.   

After sharing these powerful words of the Bible with someone who doesn't know Jesus, ask them if they would like to come to salvation. If so, there is a prayer we can lead them through. The words of the prayer do not save souls. Only a true repentant heart with faith in Jesus will save souls.

"God, I know that I have sinned against you and am deserving of punishment. But Jesus Christ took the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. With your help, I place my trust in You for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness - the gift of eternal life! Amen!'
